Day 6 of the Feelin' Feminine Challenge

I can't believe that it is day 6 already! This week has gone by so quickly. I have been having lots of fun with it, though!

Ok, today we went into town for some errands, so my outfit was slightly more dressy. :-)

What I'm wearing:

White tank
Pink short sleeve jacket-home made by me!
Blue moleskin skirt- same as day 1
Sketcher shoes. Ha-ha, yes I HAD to wear shoes since I was going into town! ;-) lol!
Hair was braided last night after shower, then left down this morning.

Tomorrow will be a little hectic, so I don't know if I will be participating in the last day.. however, I am hoping to. We will just have to see what happens. :-)

Here is the hair tutorial I promised. :-)

Put your hair in a pony tail in the center of your head. This works best if hair is slightly wet.

Divide the pony in half.

Take each half and twist. Now, this is the step that you can do two ways. You can twist it tightly, fold it in half (ends going upwards) and then secure the ends in the pony band like this: -note that this twist works best with longer hair. if you have shorter hair, you will want to do the following instructions.

Or you can do a rope braid. For those of you who don't know how to do a rope braid, I will do my best to explain..
Take your divided section and divide it again so that you have two sections on each side. Take one section and twist it to the left part way down the section. Take the other part (on the same side!) and twist it to the RIGHT part way down. I say part way down, because as you continue to work, they will get twisted even more. Now take your two sections and start twisting them together (remember, this is all on ONE side.) As you start twisting the two sections together, you will need to keep twirling your finger around them in oposite directions. By twirling your fingers, you will continue the twist all the way down the rest of your hair. So, I end up doing it like this. Twist my fingers outward, then when you have made one twist around, you will have to twist your fingers inward to continue the twist. Sorry, don't know why this went sideways..

Once you have twisted all the way down, you can secure the ends with a small band (don't worry, the twist will stay if you have done it correctly.. if I have explained it well enough!)
Repeat on the other side so you have two twists total. It will look like this.

Now you will start putting it into a bun. You don't want to twist your hair like you normally would when doing a bun. Just wrap it. You want to do it one on top of the other. Like this:

Continue wrapping until you come to the ends. Tuck those under and secure them with a few bobby pins, or clips. If regular bobby pins don't work on your hair -either because it is too thick, or just because- I highly recommend some pins like these:

Or, you can just use clips like this:

Tada! Here is the finished hair style:

Well, the twist was a little loose... ;-) =D

This style works with hair up to shoulder length, maybe slightly shorter. All you need to do is use 3 twists instead of 2. This will make your bun a little nicer. Here are some pictures of my cousin. She has about shoulder length hair. I did 3 twists, and then used a few clips to secure.

Hope this tutorial was helpful! I am sorry if I didn't explain things very well.  If this was helpful/understandable, please comment and let me know!!

April challenge- day 5

Hello young ladies!

Here is day five of the Feelin' Feminine challenge. I can't believe it is already day 5!!!

Today I am just wearing my work clothes.

A shorter black skirt (but below the knees!)- this is why it is my work skirt. I don't care for it that much, and since no one but family is around when we are working, I usually wear this skirt. I LOVE long skirts, but when you are walking around in piles of dust with spiders and bugs all over, it isn't a grand idea to have long flowy skirts. Spiders can crawl up into them quite easily, the lower it is to the ground.. trust me, I have had it happen before!

Orange T shirt

Blue work hoodie (today was a bit chilly!)

New Tennis shoes - ha, I am wearing shoes!! ;-) lol!

Hair- simple braided bun

I will post a hair tutorial later on today after some cleaning and I have taken a shower (pray I don't have spiders in my hair like last time... uh!)

See ya again soon!!

In Christ Alone,
Sarah

Day 4 of the April Challenge

Hello Everyone!

It is day four of the April challenge. Today is absolutely beautiful! The wind is hardly blowing, the sun is shining, and the earth is nice and warm. So, today I took my pictures outside. Hurray!

What I'm wearing:
Long sleeved, purple striped shirt from Walmart- I was thinking it would be another cold day, so I opted for the warm clothing. However, God suprised me with a pretty day instead. :-)

Long, blue, double knit skirt- handmade by me

No shoes- in case you haven't guessed, I prefer no shoes if I can help it. It is on rare occasions that you will find me at home with shoes on!

Hair- simple twist bun. This looks complicated, but it is very easy to do. :-) Takes only a few minutes.

Daddy and Joshua will be going to Midland, MT, to watch a bull sale. They will leave this evening. Please keep them in your prayers for a safe journey, and that they will learn some things at their destination.
So, the rest of us (Mama, Rebecca, Caleb, and I) are staying home and will enjoy some time together. Movie watching, shopping spree, and semi late nights are on our list. However, even with the fun stuff planned, we are also working. :-)

We are "Preparing our Fields", for those of you who have seen Facing the Giants. As some of you know, we are trying to sell part of our ranch. The part we are selling is the headquarter area and a few acres around it. We wil then move to another part of the ranch, build a new house, and go on from there.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie, Facing the Giants, I will share the story.

Two men were getting ready to plant their crops for the season. Both needed rain very much, and both prayed for rain. However, only one went out and prepared his fields for the rain to come. Which one do you think had faith in God?

So, as we have kept asking God to bring a buyer for the land, we realized that we weren't preparing our fields. We had several things to do to get ready, but we weren't doing them; or at least not with motivation. So, we have decided to change that and are working as much as we can outside, when the weather allows, and inside, when the weather is nasty outside. :-)

We would appreciate your prayers on this, and we thank those who are already praying.

In Christ Alone,

Sarah

April Challenge- day 3

Ok, here is my second/third day outfit (I missed day two, sorry!).

It is a typical spring day: wind blowing a 100 miles per hour (ok, maybe I am exaggerating a little bit.. not a lot, just a little) :-) Any way, it is very cold outside, so the wood stove is burning and crackling merrily.

My outfit for today:
Tiered skirt- wonderful Christmas gift from dear Mama several years ago (yes, tiered skirts are the best for windy days, by the way.... ;-) lol) I also had to mend it this morning so it didn't have a big gaping hole in the front... Poor skirt! It has seen better days.
Light blue T shirt
Once again, no shoes
Hair- simple half up in clip from Wal-mart.

First pic I am also wearing my Edwardian Apron. I made it from a dress that I had sewn a couple years ago. It was lots of fun and "interesting" because I didn't have a pattern. I was just looking at pictures. My wonderful Grandma helped me with it, though, so I can't take all the credit! I love the apron because it covers you from the neck down to your ankles.. something I need while baking! I am afraid I am not the cleanest person when in the kitchen. :-) So, that is me making breakfast this morning.

Also thought I would post a pic of what I did to myself a couple days ago. I burnt my arm on a baking sheet! Ouch! It still hurts and it has been... 4 days, I think. It has finally scabbed over. Hopefully it will heal soon. I went to bed with a bag of ice strapped on my arm, it was hurting still. It is a much darker red and is located on the middle of my arm between my wrist and elbow. Fun... ;-) lol

Also, for my dear friends who will be totally shocked... I GOT BANGS!!!! Yes, I can invision some of you trying to pick your jaws up off of the floor. I know, Sarah who would NEVER cut her hair. Sarah who went and got it layered, has now gotten bangs. Ok, ok, stop gaping. ;-) lol I am sitting here wondering who will be the most surprised of my friends...

So, our dear friend, Caity Spencer, had gone to a hair cutting shop type deal where she learned all the proper ways of styling and cutting, etc. We had her over and got our hair done. I had a simple trim, and then had her add some wispy bangs. I am very pleased with the effect and so far haven't regretted it! :-) Don't think I will, either. Mama had a perm done, and Rebecca just had a trim.

So, here is a closer view of newly added addition. :-)

So, there you have it. I will be doing my best to get pics up every day. :-)

I would also like to ask for prayers for some friends of ours. They are out of town right now for a few reasons. I don't want to say names, so right now I am just calling them the "Faith Family". They are being so faithful right now. So, please keep them in your prayers. Thank you!
God bless!

In Christ Alone!

April Challenge

Hello friends!

I found a challenge on another blog and thought I would join in. The challenge is "Self Control". This young lady does monthly challenges and asks readers to join in on the "fun". ;-) I decided to join this month and see how it goes. For this first week, it is a modesty challenge. Wear modest skirts and shirts/blouses. So, here is my first day outfit. As I already wear skirts all the time, it won't be too difficult. However, I am thinking that her other weeks might be a bit challenging. So, prayers are appreciated as I do this challenge. If you would like to join in on the fun, you can check it out HERE.

I am afraid the pictures aren't that great.. Self photos don't go so well with me... ;-) lol!

What I am wearing:
Pink short sleeve blouse -Walmart
Blue moleskin skirt- handmade by dear Mama
No shoes... ;-) =D
Hair- simple twist bun. Fun and stylish, but VERY easy to do

So, on an "Easter" note, I thought I would share some of our conversation that Mom, Becca, and I had on the way home (the boys were in another vehicle).

We had been visiting about the church service for a while when, after a slight lull in the conversation, Mom spoke up.

"Have you ever thought about the words to the song, 'Were you there?'?"

If you have never heard the song, one of the verses goes like this:

"Where you there when they Crucified my Lord? Were you there when they Crucified my Lord? 'Cause sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they Crucified my Lord?"

Although I have sung and heard if several times, I have never really thought about the words. It was an interesting thought. What was the song writers's point that he/she was trying to get across? When Becca and I didn't answer, Mom filled us in.

"We were there. When He was dying on the cross, we were there. He was dying for us, for our sins. We were on His mind as He selflessly gave up His life for us."

I have to say, that is a most intriquing thought. I had never thought of it like that, but I am so glad she did. Now, any time I sing that song, I will know what it means -or, at least what it means to me.

I hope we can all continue to praise the Lord everyday for His death and ressurection instead of just on Easter.

God bless!

In Christ alone!

Back home!

Our dear little buddy is home! He came home on Wednesday. He seems to be doing really well, but still has to take a few medications to get rid of anything left in his sinuses. Thank you so much for all your prayers! They were very much appreciated.

God bless!

Stay Tuned!

Hey Friends!

We are alive... we have not fallen off the face of the earth, though maybe we feel like we have fallen face down on the earth. ;)

We have been pretty busy lately. Hopefully things will be getting back into "normal" routine -if there is such a thing       .

Please be praying for some very dear friends of ours. Their son is in the hospital with a serious infection in his eye socket. Please pray that God will give the Doctors wisdom and skill for whatever needs to be done, and that the family will have wisdom on any decisions that need to be made.

Thanks and God bless!

Sarah

UPDATE!

Ok, they found out that it wasn't his eye. It was his sinuses. So, they were able to drain a lot of stuff out and relieve the pressure. However, he had another pocket near his brain, so they didn't want to operate. Instead, they will be doing saline flushes every hour. It is a painful process, so continue to keep him in your prayers.

Thanks!

New Update:

Ok, well, I am afraid I relayed some wrong info.. We had a few miscommunications going on. :) Any way, he does have an infection in his eye, but there was the stuff with the sinuses as well. Sorry about that!

Any way, keep him in your prayers, and his family.

Thanks!

Newer update:

Ok, our little man is home!! Praise the Lord. He is just having to rest a lot, I think. I don't know too many details, but just pray that he will heal properly. He is having a bit of trouble moving his eye all the way upwards -as if he were looking at the ceiling- but the doctors think it will heal over time. So, right now he and his family are reconnecting. Thank you so much for your prayers!

Home Schooled Kids

Yup! We're home schooled and right proud of it. There ain't no better way ta go. In fact, I do believe that ya jes' don't get the same good learnin' like ya do when ya home school. Us kids are right proud of that thar' fact. So, I thought I would share this conversation we had amongst ourselves tuh other day in that contraption y'all call a vehicle. We was drivin' home from a bull sale (Went purty good, too. but I'm a-gonna post 'bout that later) We were talkin' 'bout a comedian who had mentioned a game called Badminton. Course, my mama tells me it is spelled that way, but it really sounds like it should be spelled Badmitten. Don't ya think? Any hoow, we was talkin' and Caleb, he's the youngest, asked what it was -he don't hear too well all tuh way in duh back seat. He kept on askin' and finally Josh heard 'im and said, "Some town!"

I laughed. What a bright kid he was! Ha, "That ain't badmitten," I said. "Bad mitten is that game where you put on a glove, or mitten, with Velcro on it. Then ya throw a ball between two persons. It's got to be one of them fluffy balls so it sticks to the mitt." Now ma an' pa start a laughin'. We kids look real perplexed. We had it right, didn't we?

Let me tell ya something about home school parents. They ain't the kind to just give ya an aswer. No siree. They gotta make you give SEVERAL answers. Even if ya get the first one wrong, they make ya answer again. So, instead of tellin' us what bad mitten really is (yup, I admit that I was pure-dee wrong too), they decide to ask the oldest and smartest of us all. Becca steps up to the plate to make a hit. We was a laughin' at how silly we was (we ain't too proud to admit our faults). Becca is real smart, I tell ya. Real smart. When pa asks her what bad mitten is, she pauses for a second and says, "Well, let me think about it." We wait and she replies after a bit.

"Ain't it that game kind of like tennis? 'Cept you have a little net thing, kind of like a pocket, on the head of your stick. Then ya throw the ball back and forth and try to catch it in that thar pocket?"

We sit there all a puzzled as ma and pa start laughin' again. They decide to tell us what Badminton is. It kind of took the hot air right out of us. Kind of felt like we was deflatin', sort of. However, if any one asks us what Badminton is, we can right enough tell ya.

In memory of Mocha

The title may sound funny, but it is true. On Valentine's day our milk cow, Clarice, gave birth to a cute little heifer. Unfortunately, the little thing died a few days later. Here is a picture of her.

Clarice has been giving us 3 gallons of milk a day. We only milk in the morning, so we needed some calves to milk her at night. Another nice thing with having the calves is that when we need to go places (and we have bull sales coming up) we don't have to ask the neighbors to come and milk! So, without further adieu, here are some pictures of the new babies -both are bulls- Mocha and Latte. =D Mocha is the darker one.

Mocha

Latte

Full milk pail!

Clarice is not a very tall cow. Her udder hangs very low to the ground, and we have difficulties trying to get the calves to nurse her. So, at almost 10 pm, we kids were out at the barn, trying to figure out a way to get her up higher. The solution? A riser. So, we all trooped over to the shop. Now, picture us in our Duckies (really called Dickies, but we prefer the other name), mud boots, etc. Josh's and my coveralls were way too big for us, so I imagine we looked rather funny. So, we are out at the shop. Becca is cutting the boards, I am drilling holes, and Josh is screwing in. Our platform was finished in a matter of minutes. Quite proud of ourselves, we headed back to the barn put the riser in and tried again to get the calves on. This time it worked! Hurray! So now we simply milk Clarice in the morning and then let the calves onto her. Easy? No and yes. We still need her to adopt the calves. She isn't too fond of them at the moment, unfortunately. So this practically defeats the purpose of getting the calves. If we have to put her in the stanchion every time we put the calves on, our neighbors will still have to come out when we are gone. So, please pray that Clarice will take the calves. She is starting to warm up to them, finally, but we still need her to be their mother.

This morning's milking was rather... interesting. The cow kicked over the pail several times, thus, we didn't get as much milk this morning as we would have liked. One of the times she kicked, I tried grabbing up the bucket and ended up getting my hand stepped on. Let's just say I wasn't very happy with the cow at that time and wasn't feeling any remorse as I yelled at her. I calmed down, prayed, and sat down to milk again. Whoosh came the foot, and there went the pail. I am rather ashamed of my actions now. I can't say I acted kindly as I once again felt anger rising. I do believe that The Lord uses milk cows as his trainers for us to learn to be patient. Clarice finally settled down, after I calmed down (which shows you another thing.. cows can really understand how you feel and will act upon it) and we were able to get a decent amount of milk. So, needless to say, I learned my lesson. :-)

All praise and glory to Him,
Sarah

The Lord has blessed us, and kept us!

I just wanted to share some of the wonderful things the Lord has done in our life. My heart is brimming with thankfulness!

First of all, Dad quit his mortgage job and, therefore, was unemployed for a while. However, after praying a lot about different job options, Daddy is now training with Northwest Mutial (life insurance). He has a lot of work to do, but we are all very pleased with how it is going. The Lord has certainly guided him and Mama as they decided what would be the best option.

Secondly, some dear friends of ours have been so kind and truly blessed us by buying us lots of groceries. Rice, beans, vegetables, fruits, laundry soap, dish soap, and all the other things that are more necessary. God has truly blessed us in such a rich way.

These things have reminded me that He will never forsake us! He is always looking out for us, and it is through our weaknesses that He is made perfect.

I have been blessed with a WONDERFUL family as well. A Daddy and a Mama who love me dearly, and who are doing their best to bring up their children in the Lord. They have been there for me countless times. Daddy is always giving advice on life matters and other things. Mama is my best friend and confidant. She and I have had so many wonderful, intellectual conversations, cried together, and have gone through many growing experiences together as we both strive to encourage each other in the Lord.

I also have 3 wonderful siblings. 1 sister, who is my favorite big sis, and 2 sweet, funny, ornery brothers. Rebecca is my "bestest" friend and has been SO encouraging through my growing up years. She shares different encouraging thoughts with me that help me in my Walk with Him and is always there for me when I just need to talk and cry on a shoulder. She is also always interested in the things I make, write, or do.

My two wonderful brothers help me keep up my spirits when life gets me down. Those two goofy, rambunctious, loveable boys are 2 of my biggest fans in the many things I do. They will always sit on my bed and listen as I read some of my stories out loud to them or just want to talk. We have had lots of fun with each other and several interesting experiences. If one is in trouble, it was usually all of us in trouble. We do a lot together out on the ranch. Chase cows around in the pasture, swing in the barn, play swords (I am always the lady in distress while my two handsome knights come and save me), jump in the hay, and have competitions of various sports. Many times they have been the source of my "giggle box" being turned over.

I am thanking the Lord for the many things He has provided me with. I have clothes to wear, food to eat, a roof over my head, a bed to sleep in, a family who loves me, and, most of all, a Heavenly Father who is always taking care of me.

In our Lord Jesus Christ,
Sarah

Thomas is the model of all..

Hello friends!

Our family has recently joined up with BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) in ABQ. We have been working our way through the book of John. For this week, we studied John chapter 11, and I found some rather interesting things in this chapter that I had never really thought about before.

So, this chapter is talking about the death of Lazarus. Jesus hears the news that His friend is sick, but He doesn't depart from the place He was staying (near the Jordon where John was baptizing). Why? If He had gone right away, He would have been able to save Lazarus from death, true, but because He didn't leave until later, He was able to give more proof that He was indeed the Son of God by Raising Lazarus from the grave. Now, here is the part that really intrigued me. Verses 14 and 15 say "So Jesus said to them plainly, 'Lazarus is dead, and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there so that you may believe; but let us go to him.'" Now comes verse 16. "Therefore Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, 'Let us also go, so that we may die with Him."

This Verse may not have a lot that people ever really notice. However, our Bible study question was "what were Thomas's strength and weakness in that verse". Now, I am thinking, "what weakness?" But when you take a closer look, you get a better view. Thomas was faithful and showed a strength by being willing to go with Jesus. However, his weakness was DOUBT. For me, that is a tough word. It means we aren't totally trusting in Jesus. I know several of you, if not everyone, have had this struggle before. We want to do thnigs on our own and not trust Jesus to the utmost. We don't need Him for everything, surely?? I mean, can't we take care of a few things ourselves? No, I am not talking about whether we are having PB&J for lunch, but other areas in our life. For us right now, it is trusting that God will take care of us and give us the buyer that we need for the ranch. However, it is rather difficult as we count down the days until we will need to move off the ranch completely.

Now comes another interesting part in this verse. Who was it that doubted Jesus? Thomas. He didn't think that Jesus could go into Judea again without getting caught and killed. Jesus obviously had other plans. Now, let's look at John 20. In verses 25-25 we see that Thomas was not with the 12 when Jesus appeared to them after his ressurection. So, the disciples are telling Thomas that they saw Jesus. Thomas once again doubts this. He said that "unless I see in His hand the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."  Now comes the neat part. Jesus once again appears to them and talks to Thomas. Jesus tells him to reach and put his fingers on His hands and to touch His side. Thomas now believes. What Mom and I found rather interesting is that Thomas SAW Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead, and yet he doesn't believe that Jesus Himself rose from the dead.  I think that Thomas really is the model of what some Christians are today. God often shows us "miracles and wonders" and answers prayers, yet we often do not Trust Him still.

So, my lesson from God this week was quite an eye opener.  I think that Thomas really hits the nail on the head, so to speak, for me any way.  I am going to try to learn from His example of doubt and not repeat it!!

God bless all of you, my Fellow warriors for Christ!!

Calf in the Tub... again

Tuesday morning Dad and Josh went out to go check cows and found my (Rebecca) cow had calved. The calf was cold and not doing well. Dad had to head into work so Josh and I went out and brought the calf in and threw her in the tub. After dousing her for a good while we dried her off then went back out to get Momma cow.    These pictures are taken with my new camera....

It is amazing how some animals are so gentle. The Momma cow was my old show heifer (Faye) and didn't mind at all that we were touching her, putting a halter on her and towing her back to the house behind the pickup, or messing with her baby. We got her into the barn. At this point the baby was still not warm enough and not getting up and nursing. I got some warm milk and was down on the ground in one of the little stalls in the barn feeding her out of a turkey baster (Don't worry, this one is especially marked for animals. You can still come have turkey with us anytime. :D) while Momma cow was standing right in front of me mooing at her baby. Great cow if you ask me. :)

Baby was still not up and doing well so we brought her back in and gave her another bath. She is now up and doing great, nursing and sleeping as little babies do. It took a while for her to figure out that I really wasn't the one to get the milk from, that it came "udderneath" her Momma.

This girl is doing great now, and it will be fun to look at her in the pasture and say, "Do you remember when she was born cold, and we had to throw her in the tub..."

When we're too weary to pray

I read this beautiful poem on a devotional, and I just had to share. I don't know how many times lately I've found myself in this exact spot - just weary. What a wonderful reminder to me to know that God is that Perfect Father who knows best how to love us and give us the rest that we need as we lay our burdens at the foot of His Cross.

"I'm too tired to trust and too tired to pray,
Said one, as the over-taxed strength gave way.
The one conscious thought by my mind possessed,
Is, oh, could I just drop it all and rest.

Will God forgive me, do you suppose,
If I go right to sleep as a baby goes,
Without an asking if I may,
Without ever trying to trust and pray?

Will God forgive you? why think, dear heart,
When language to you was an unknown art,
Did a mother deny you needed rest,
Or refuse to pillow your head on her breast?

Did she let you want when you could not ask?
Did she set her child an unequal task?
Or did she cradle you in her arms,
And then guard your slumber against alarms?

Ah, how quick was her mother love to see,
The unconscious yearnings of infancy.
When you've grown too tired to trust and pray,
When over-wrought nature has quite given way:

Then just drop it all, and give up to rest,
As you used to do on a mother's breast,
He knows all about it--the dear Lord knows,
So just go to sleep as a baby goes;

Without even asking if you may,
God knows when His child is too tired to pray.
He judges not solely by uttered prayer,
He knows when the yearnings of love are there.

He knows you do pray, He knows you do trust,
And He knows, too, the limits' of poor weak dust.
Oh, the wonderful sympathy of Christ,
For His chosen ones in that midnight tryst,

When He bade them sleep and take their rest,
While on Him the guilt of the whole world pressed--
You've given your life up to Him to keep,
Then don't be afraid to go right to sleep."

Happy Birthday, Rebecca!!

Dearest Daughter,
Oh, how I love this smile because it is you - happy, relaxed, just enjoying life. You have been such a treasure to nurture and disciple these last 19 years!! I can't imagine a better child to "break me in" as a Mom. You've been very patient with me as I used you as the guinea pig, and I am very grateful for that. We love you so much just because you're you. We especially love the big heart that you have for Christ and the desire you have to serve Him in ALL of your life. You always have a welcoming smile to greet anyone that comes through our doors, and you look for ways to make them welcome - even when I'm oblivious to the world. :) You are compassionate with those around you and you always have an ear to listen to their hurts and concerns.
Continue to keep your eyes focused on Christ as you seek the path He has for you. Seek the counsel of Godly people and surround yourself with those that will sharpen you and encourage you to grow in your walk with God. And remember.....we love you.....no matter what!!!

Turning 14!

Dearest Son Joshua,

What a joyous day it was when we welcomed you into our family. We had no idea what to anticipate that day - joy or sorrow - with all that could have gone wrong due to complications. However, here we are 14 years later knowing that God's Hand delivered you safely through so many medical trials and challenges. You show no signs of those days of distress, and instead, you continually remind me of the Glory of God's Hand in all things. You are becoming such a courageous man of God with your desire to study and grow in wisdom as well as knowledge. I love to hear you share your thoughts on God's Word or ideas you have to make this world a better place for all of us. I enjoy your servant's heart as you help me or your sisters around the house and as you encourage and mentor your brother. I feel so blessed to see you take on tasks that will bless Nana during this time as well as your willingness to help anyone who calls and needs an extra pair of hands. It is such a pleasure to see you stepping up and helping around the ranch in an effort to take on tasks that only Daddy can do. It is also so much fun to just laugh with you over a story, joke or memory. We love you so much - just the way you are, no matter what.

New post with.... goggles???

Yes, you have read the title correctly. I have finally posted a new post (yeah!!), and it does have to do with goggles.

I know I am not the only person in the world to have this problem of onions stinging yours eyes when you are cutting/chopping/ and totally annihilating them. Some friends told me about a funny story a while back. There were these children that every time their mom would chop onions, they would run and put their goggles on. At first, I thought that a funny story and rather silly. However, when dear Momma instructed me to chop some onions, I decided I would give it a try. So, off to find the goggles! (kids, do not try this at home! ;))

So, my conclusion; the experiment DID work!! Thank you friends for sharing that story and saving me many hours of heart and eye ache! :)

OK, just so you can see what in the world I looked like, here are some pictures. I am holding some chopped onions in my hand.

(OK, I tried to go for a serious look. I was on a mission!)

Late again....

Well, I am afraid that I am late again in typing up an update! As you probably guessed, we have been pretty busy with cattle work. We are finally coming to an end of the hectic busy season and are enjoying some quiet time.

The most interesting thing that happened lately was a square dance! :) We set up a square dance a couple weeks ago. Posting pictures is great, but it sure doesn't capture all the fun everyone has. :)

Settin' up

Our warm up song: The chicken dance!

Making a square of their own. ;)

Doing the 'Courtesy Turn.

Now do a 'doe Si doe'!

Turn to that corner!

Now do a 'Right and Left Grand'! (Are we confusing you yet?)

Ladies makin' the 'Right hand Star'

Ladies go in, Men Sashay

I like the skipping! ;)

What? You didn't think that was funny?

Oops.....No wonder our square kept messin' up!!

What is goin' on in that square? ;)

And here are a couple of pictures of us visitin' in between dances.

Other than that, the Heckendorn Herd has been workin' some cows, putting 'em in thar rightful pastures, and enjoying watching all the baby kivs run and leap aroun' in thuh air. :)

Also, if you couldn't tell, trying out a new dialect of cowpoker language. ;)

In Christ's love,
Sarah

Heckendorn Update

Hello Friends!

The Heckendorn Herd has been up to a lot these past few weeks. So, here goes for an update! :)

First, we had three bull sales in March. Our first one was at Roswell. We have a family tradition with our bull sales. If our bulls sell well we go and eat at Cattle Baron for supper (Fancier than normal steak house in Roswell.) If they don't sell well, we eat at McDonald's. This year, we ate at Golden Corral because our bulls didn't do really well, but it wasn't really bad either. After enjoying a leisurely dinner with some friends, we started our three hour drive home.

The next weekend, we had our second bull sale in Belen. This one was a day trip, so it was nice to not miss any nights on our own beds. :) It was disappointing, but we praise God for what we do get, even if we would like more.

Our last bull sale was in Tucumcari. We went up the night before and stayed at my grandparent's house. This sale went pretty well. Of course, we understand the circumstances of the economy, so considering this we were happy with what we did get.

Last week, our friend Joe Wells came over. He was taking a blacksmith class in Moriarty and stayed at our house. After the second day, he met two people from Texas that were also at the class. He invited them out for dinner, and we had a blast. Atlanta and Cimmaron Shannon were great people to be around and can play the guitar and fiddle really well. We decided to have them come out for dinner every night for the rest of the week. So, after several late nights and early mornings we were glad to sleep in a little later after they all went home. However, we thoroughly enjoyed them while they were here. :)

So, what is coming up for the Heckendorn Herd? Well, in two weeks we have our CAPE (Christian Association for Parent Educators) Convention. The Herd does the registration as a family. We are able to meet a lot of new people every day and see some familiar faces of friends met previous years. You can check it out at http://www.cape-nm.org/.

After convention, we are looking forward to a week of catching up on family time and maybe throwing in some sewing for the ladies. :)

Right now Joe's older sister is staying with us. She has a job here in Moriarty at Shorty's Bar-B- Que. :) We are going to let her rent out our little apartment while she is working. Until we get that ready, however, she is staying with us in the house. (I am afraid that she had to listen to giggling and hard-to-control laughter last night. We won't say from whom. ;))

So, there is your latest update on The Herd.

In Christ's Love,

Sarah
